Savanna

The Savanna is a South African meat goat developed from indigenous white goats in the Northern Cape, in country that is hot, dry and unforgiving. It reached the United States in 1994.

They are all white with black skin, black horns and black hooves, and that pigmentation is the point: the skin under the white coat resists sun damage in a way pink skin does not.

They are heavily muscled like a Boer but were selected under harsher conditions, so they carry more of the hardiness and parasite tolerance that intensive selection for growth tends to remove.

Does kid easily and raise kids on poor forage.

The trade is numbers and price. Savannas are far less common in the United States than Boers, so stock is expensive and harder to find, and the commercial buyer at a sale barn is not paying a premium for the difference.
