About Kalahari Red goats

The Kalahari Red is a South African meat goat developed from indigenous red goats and Boer stock, selected in the Kalahari for animals that survive heat, drought and predators without intervention.

They are solid red with fully pigmented skin, which resists sun damage, and the colour itself is a practical trait: red animals are less visible to predators in that landscape than white ones.

They are heavily muscled, hardy, and known for good mothering and for browsing efficiently on sparse ground.

They reached the United States relatively recently and remain uncommon.

The trade is exactly that rarity. Prices are high, the genetic base in North America is narrow, and anyone buying should ask hard questions about how the imported line was established and how closely related the available stock is.

Heritage breeds come up in ones and twos, so this is normal. We will email you the moment a Kalahari Red is listed.
