About Pygora goats
The Pygora is a fibre goat created in Oregon by Katharine Jorgensen, crossing Pygmy goats with Angoras to produce a small, manageable animal growing a fleece a handspinner would want. The breeders' association was formed in 1987.
The registry recognises three fleece types: type A is mohair-like and lustrous, type C is fine and cashmere-like, and type B is a blend of both. Which one an animal grows is not fully predictable from its parents.
They are small, gentle and easy to handle, which is much of the appeal for a small holding.
The trade is the fleece lottery and the shearing. You may not get the type you wanted, the fleeces are small, and type C and B animals need combing or dehairing rather than a straightforward clip.
