Braford

Braford is a Brahman and Hereford cross, generally around three-eighths Brahman, developed in Florida from the 1940s by ranchers who needed cattle that could work in heat and wet without losing the Hereford's disposition and foraging ability.

They usually show the Hereford red body and white face over a Brahman frame, and they carry the heat tolerance and insect resistance that make cattle viable on the Gulf Coast.

Cows are fertile and long-lived, and they raise a calf on rough subtropical forage.

The trade is inherited from both parents. The white face still burns and still carries the pinkeye risk that comes with unpigmented skin, and the Brahman fraction still costs some tenderness and some cold tolerance.
