Welcome offer terms
What a welcome offer is, who receives one, and how it is used. These terms apply to an account created through an affiliate’s link or referral code while welcome offers are available.
Last updated September 17, 2026. They form part of our terms of service.
What a welcome offer is
A welcome offer is a one-time reduction in the closing fee HoofnHorn charges on a sale. It reduces our fee and nothing else. It does not change the price of the animal, and it never reduces what a seller receives.
The amount, any minimum sale price, and the last day to use your offer are shown in your account. They are the terms in effect on the day you created your account. If we change the welcome offer later, your offer stays as it is.
Who receives one
You receive a welcome offer when your account is created through a valid referral: you entered an affiliate’s referral code when you signed up, or you followed an affiliate’s link before creating your account. Whether a referral is valid is decided as the affiliate program terms describe, once, when the account is created.
Each person may receive one welcome offer. It belongs to the account it was given to and cannot be transferred or sold. It has no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money or credit.
An account created while welcome offers are not available does not receive one, and an offer is never added to an account after it has been created.
How it is used
Your welcome offer is used once, on whichever of these happens first:
- your first sale of an animal, as the seller; or
- your first purchase, as the buyer, at or above the minimum sale price shown in your account.
A purchase below that minimum does not use your offer, and it remains available.
On a sale, the closing fee is reduced, so more of the sale price is paid to you. On a purchase, the closing fee you pay HoofnHorn is reduced, so your total is less than the sale price. The amount you pay the seller does not change.
A welcome offer never takes our closing fee below zero. Any part of it the closing fee on that sale cannot use is not carried forward.
If a buyer and a seller who each hold a welcome offer complete a sale with each other, both offers are used on that sale.
When it ends
A welcome offer lasts for a limited time, starting on the day you create your account. Your account shows the last day. The sale must be made by the end of that day, Eastern time.
A sale is made when an auction closes with a winning bid, when a Buy It Now purchase is completed, or when an offer made after an auction is accepted. An auction that closes after the last day does not use the offer, even if it started before.
If a sale falls through
If a sale that used your welcome offer is canceled because the buyer did not pay, or HoofnHorn refunds the closing fee on it, your welcome offer is returned to your account. It keeps its original last day. If that day has already passed, it is not returned.
Misuse
We may withhold, cancel, or reverse a welcome offer where we have reasonable grounds to believe it was obtained or used in breach of these terms, our terms of service, or the affiliate program terms. That includes an offer obtained through a self-referral or a second account, and one used on a sale that was not genuine. We may review any sale where one affiliate referred both the buyer and the seller.
Changes
We may change the welcome offer, or stop offering it, at any time. A change applies to accounts created after it takes effect. It does not change an offer already in your account, except as described under Misuse. We will post any new version of these terms here with a new date.
Questions about any of this can go to support@hoofnhorn.com. Your account shows your own welcome offer.
